Landshipping Memorial

Forty men, women and children were killed on St. Valentine's Day, 1844, as they worked in the Garden Pit mine when the roof collapsed and the River Cleddau flooded the shafts. This memorial in the quiet hamlet of Landshipping was erected by the local community in remembrance of the lives lost on that tragic day. The plaque bears the names of those who died, some children without ages were assumed to be under 10 years old.
