This limekiln on the Nevern Estuary close to Newport bridge is known locally as Bryncyn Kiln. It is one of numerous kilns which can be seen around the counties coastline. The stone was brought to it by boat on the incoming tide to be processed into fertilizer for use by the local farmers and also used as building mortar, whitewash, disinfectant, bleach in papermaking and in cesspits. It was in huge demand, some landowners having their own personal kiln. Situated on the coast path it is in easy walking distance from the town and bridge.
